Dear colleagues and friends, I will be doing an 8-week, 90-minute, evening, zoom, Non-fiction Writing Workshop.                                                                                                      Â
I am pleased to offer this workshop, which I did for 26 sequential semesters at Columbia Medical School and continued at The Columbia School of Public Health, as well as by on-line, hosted sessions. My writing workshops often were over-subscribed; many of the ~800-word non-fiction essays written by participants went on to be published in diverse, on-line publications.
I am grateful to Jocelyn Winn for hosting this website at The 11th Letter, an event space and literary services agency she owns, located in Concord NH, where I live.
My writing workshop is not a didactic workshop (given to boing, soporific sessions) but rather an active, participatory, group workshop where participants write an ~ 800 word, non-fiction, unpublished essay/blog on a subject they are passionate about, and read it aloud in a group setting for comments and suggestions - always supportive in nature because of the environment I and participants establish for the workshop.
By way of introduction to those I don’t know, I am a psychiatrist, public health doctor, and non-fiction writer. I have published 14 books and over 500 essays/blogs in a variety of publications, including the NYT, WSJ, Psychology Today (>100 publications), The HuffPost (where I was mental health editor for 7 years), Scientific American, US News & World (columnist), and many other publications. My full bio - and examples of my writing - can be found on my website, www.askdrlloyd.com.
Many professionals want to step out of the over-prescriptive requirements of journals and other publications for experts. They wish to give voice to something they are passionate about, but don’t have the setting, support, or coaching to do so. That’s what I provide in this workshop.
Writing is a craft that can be learned and mastered. This workshop, and the writing it promotes, helps build that craft.
